passion is to help clients learn to love their skin and to make themselves a priority. Over the years, this clinic has grown into a team of ten local women with a strong focus on skin and education!
Could you please tell us about Spoil Yourself Spa and how you began your business?
Spoil Yourself Spa is a team of 10 local women who are very passionate about helping women love their skin and empowering clients to make themselves a priority. We started in a garage in 2009 as a one women band and over the years have grown into an amazing team with a strong skin focus.
What sets Spoil Yourself Spa and its treatments apart?
I am really proud of the spa and brand as it has grown so much in the past couple of years even when faced with challenges. Our overall client experience is filled with loads of little surprises which our clients always say are amazing and make them feel truly valued. As a team, their skin knowledge is excellent so the overall education and knowledge passed onto clients definitely sets us apart.
What is Spoil Yourself Spa’s most popular treatment?
Because we have a strong skin clientele we are finding our “Skin WOF” is definitely filling the calendar more and more. This is a seasonal skin check to refresh their skincare routine and planned future treatments to ensure we are still on track for their skin needs and goals.
How do you keep your staff motivated?
The whole SYS team are amazing women who are incredibly passionate about skin and their education. We have individual training plans, regular workshops and a fantastic training room which encourages learning and as a group, one of our values is GROWTH which I think feeds this culture so we motivated each other.
What are the challenges of running a salon?
Like everyone the ever-changing movement of covid has definitely created moments of anxiety but has also been an incredible growth opportunity to develop and adapt as a salon. You never know what a day is going to bring but I guess that is the challenge you sign up too when owning a business.
What has been your most memorable career moment so far?
This year at one of our workshops – seeing how happy, relaxed and confident my team was. There have been some amazing moments over the past 13 years but the feeling to see a team with purpose was everything to me.
How have dermaviduals assisted Spoil Yourself Spa?
Dermaviduals has created a pathway to help brand new therapists learn deeply about skin and also brought senior therapists back into the game as they needed a new challenge. I am super grateful to be introduced to a brand that was on the same mission as our own.
What is your number one skincare tip?
Give your skin time to change – we are used to an instant world and instant results but as we know skin doesn’t work like that. Education is the biggest tool in our industry today and Dermaviduals is brilliant at providing the latest information as therapists we need.
What advice would you give to anyone wanting to start their own skin clinic?
I think looking at the reasons why you want to open a business is huge, Do you want to be an owner/ operator and create amazing experiences and results for your clients or do you want to own a business because you enjoy numbers and developing a team? It’s a huge responsibility to open a business and take on a team so talking to many different business owners and their experiences would be a great start.
