We’ve all heard of ceramides before, but what most of us don’t know is that it’s a major player for skin health that is often overlooked and wildly underrated. It plays a vital role in the water ecology of the skin by slowing down trans-epidermal water loss (TEWL) and it also contributes to the formation of the skin’s acid mantle. This is the skin’s protective hydrolipidic barrier and it requires ceramides to be the glue that holds the water and oil together.
