by | 4 October 2016

Based in Milford, North Shore, Samsara Medispa provides a holistic, warm and tranquil beauty experience. They offer their valued clients serious skincare treatments that are well researched, proven safe and effective and all products used do not contain nasty and unnecessary ingredients, are sustainable and cruelty free. Samsara Medispa is located centrally in Dodson House which accommodates various medical professions. Milford, on the North Shore, is one of the oldest seaside settlements in Auckland and is developing into a growing area of boutique clothing stores, cafes and restaurants that are unique and offer delicious food. Right around the corner from Milford Shops is a beautiful beach looking out toward the picturesque Hauraki Gulf. Their small but dynamic team focuses on the philosophy of providing an ultimately empowering experience that gives their clients confidence and aids in the achievement of their goals. Samsara Medispa consists of a team of two passionate corneotherapists: Priya and Nikki.

Priya is the owner/director and senior therapist at Samsara Medispa. She gained her CIDESCO and NZ Beauty Therapy Diplomas at Joyce Block in 2003 and then worked in a variety of paramedical and elite day spas in Harley Street, London, Queenstown and Auckland. Priya’s love for her job grows everyday and she chatted to us about her skin-focused clinic. “My experience, knowledge and passion is continuing to grow and I’m enjoying the ever-changing skincare industry more than ever! My passion is skincare, makeup, electrolysis and IPL.”

Samsara Medispa’s second team member, Nikki, is a beauty and nail technician specialising in skincare and traditional beauty therapy. “Nikki and I thrive to educate ourselves further and we endeavour to learn something new about corneotherapy and dermaviduals every day. We also love to attend relevant post-graduate training to up-skill ourselves as much as possible. This allows us to be confident and knowledgeable when educating our clients about their internal and external health of their skin.”

What inspires you professionally? “There are so many things! When I attend post graduate seminars, reading/listening to like-minded successful women in business and hearing my wonderful clients’ success stories about their skin health and experience after their visits with us. My family also keeps me inspired, my fiancé has a flooring company and talking about our business experiences and valued clients keeps us inspired. Lastly my daughters (a one year and a four year old) keeps me inspired to be a positive and empowering role model for them.”

What do you value most in your business? “Our clients! Every one of our clients is important and valued. We appreciate and value their trust, loyalty and feedback. We wouldn’t be here today if it wasn’t for their support.”

“Although we have had dermaviduals for only 6 months but been in business for much longer, being a dermaviduals partner is one of the best decisions I have made in business (the other one being to move my home clinic to a retail and commercial premises). I have always been passionate about skincare but was disappointed with the lack of support, training, passion, business philosophy and results I was receiving from previous brands. When researching dermaviduals and subsequently becoming a partner, I have found a new found confidence and excitement in treating my clients skin internally and externally. dermaviduals gives me excellent support, training and all the resources to learn about skin and corneotherapy. We are still in the early learning stages of being corneotherapists and are looking forward to learning more!”

Favourite dermaviduals product? That’s such a hard question! As we all know that no skins are alike and having a truly customised skincare range that can evolve makes such a difference, so how can I pick only one!? However, for me at the moment it is PlutioDerm Plus as my day cream. I love how this product is effective to treat acne and blemish prone skin as well as acne tarda. For me personally it has helped heal my breakouts, control oiliness, prevent inflammation and it keeps my skin hydrated.”

What is your number one skin care tip? “Always follow a good skin home care routine customised to your skin type and conditions by a professional. That involves quality ingredients and includes eye cream and a physical SPF.”

“Having a clear business plan, vision and philosophy allows me to not get caught up in the hype of skincare fads. I’ve never rushed into any new treatment, product or equipment without doing research and waiting to see it is safe and effective. There are so many beauty trends that just don’t offer longterm solutions. I feel my previous experience working in clinics in New Zealand and overseas has given me more knowledge to choose the best for my clients and I have always been very selective.”

“We recently purchased Milford Beauty Therapy and had a branding change to Samsara Medispa. Milford Beauty Therapy had been a long standing clinic in Milford with a loyal client following. We have had many changes since the move including introducing derma CIT pen treatments, hot stone and pregnancy massage plus treatment packages and courses. Our lovely clients also receive birthday vouchers, loyalty discounts and referral rewards. We also like to give back to our community with treatment vouchers for charities to use for raffles and auctions.”
