Why Oils Won’t Make Your Skin Oily

by | 3 May 2019

We have had a lot of people tell us that they are hesitant to add an oil to their skincare routine because they’re worried that it will make their skin oily. This couldn’t be further from the truth – you may just not have found the right oil for your individual skin. As we revealed recently in a blog dispelling acne myths, only 3% of the population actually has a true oily skin. Skin barrier impairment is often misdiagnosed as an oily skin type because constant stripping of the acid mantle results in trans-epidermal water loss (TEWL). TEWL encourages the over-production of sebum and without conducting an in-depth skin analysis to identify the cause (and not just the symptom!), it can appear that the skin is a true oily. Our oils are pure, unfiltered, non-diluted and can help to repair & protect an impaired skin barrier but can definitely not cause oily skin!

Our oils are a wonderful and luxurious additive to your autumn and winter skincare armoury to up your skin’s lipid content and soothe skin affected by the cold. As Dr Hans Lautenschlager explains “Oils create a protective barrier that helps the skin to retain moisture.”
